I'm not saying that he had made up his mind, but that he was already mentally prepared for such a move. The policy change is not something that I've seen him cite, if he's addressed the media at all I haven't seen it yet. Regardless that tidbit came after I wrote this, but I don't think LaRoche is looking to denigrate the Sox, he's just unhappy with the situation.

If LaRoche decided awhile ago to quit, then why is LaRoche stating the policy change is the reason he is retiring? Why didn't he cite additional factors other than his son? If there are others reasons, perhaps he should clarify them. Perhaps he want to denigrate the Sox?

"....If you’ve ever quit a job, there’s a good chance you made up your mind well before the moment you decided to put in your notice, whether you acknowledged it or not....."

You couldn't be righter Matt. I don't think this was a decision Laroche took in the heat of a moment. If it was, this whole thing is ridiculously childish (Even literally). Nobody knows his body better than Laroche. Maybe he knew he is kinda done, and that he was going to be out of baseball when the Sox cut him by June, so he maybe didn't see the point (Other than making a few million dollars which is a really good point) to continue and missing time with his child.
