This is beyond the Sox ability. If you see the history of position players drafted and developed since the KW era it’s been disastrous. To me trading one of the best value vs. performance contracts in all of sports is like a government that continues to throw money in bad projects.

Use Jones, Jennings and Robertson as sweeteners if need be. In a perfect world, Reinsdorf would thrown in money with Cabrera if it meant maximizing return. I’d love to know what the market is for Abreu these days.

Teams aren’t giving up good prospects for non-elite relievers, and while, theoretically, you should get a huge return for both Sale and Quintana, it’s doubtful that you end up with a pair of better players than that duo. Because of that, I’m doubtful that the White Sox could trade those guys and end up in a better position than they are now.

I thought what made “going for it” these last couple of years more palatable was when it was clear they weren’t going to contend they would have the assets to rebuild quickly. If not now when? Sale
Quintana
Eaton
Frazier
Cabrera
Abreu(?)
Jones
Robertson
Jennings
Gonzalez
Duke
Shields(?)

Assuming a good return for this group, I’m not so sure that they would not be as good next year rebuilding as they would be if they brought this team back for another year.

They just can’t wait any longer and risk injury to Sale. Once the decision to trade Sale is made the full rebuild should be on.
