Thanks Russ! I do disagree to some extent, Todd Frazier, while strangely disappointing due to his incredibly low BABIP (thanks to a ridiculous infield fly ball rate), was still a substantial upgrade over anything else the White Sox could have thrown out at third base. Brett Lawrie was also a solid regular when healthy. Unfortunately, health has been a concern for him for quite some time and it was probably an unreasonable expectation for him to play the entire season unscathed. Mat Latos also gave the team some quality innings early on and he was cut before he could turn into...well something like James Shields.

But Jimmy Rollins, Alex Avila, and Austin Jackson were all pretty bad and Dioner Navarro and Shields were unmitigated disasters.

Every couple of years the White Sox front office brings back excuse words like "underachievers" and "underperformed" hoping we'll forget how often they've used those words over the years. They've become meaningless at best; more likely dishonest.

Great article.

As it turned out, the non-prospects out-performed the veterans brought in after 2015 concluded. This means the front office actually made a concerted effort to spend money and make trades to get players who weren't any better than the cheap hole-fillers in Charlotte.
