From what is being bartered about on Sale trade rumors, Sox are trying to rebuild their Fran system with one or two moves. Sorry again, the other teams will not pony up what the Sox are asking, if rumors are even close to being accurate. I fully expect this Reinsdorf & Co, to be left by the wayside on the trading table. And we the fans will get stuck with the same tired old story with the same ending. Mediocrity will rein in 2017 and will be until Reinsdorf and his ownership group are gone.

The Sox have proven year after year (Dunn, LaRoche, Robertson, Shields even) that they spend big and foolishly. They need to raise the organizational intelligence before they raise the spending.

LF, 3B, 2B, and 3 RP’s are below average in my assessment. I also think 175 innings from Miguel Gonzalez is not a given, and that Abreu is a defensive liability.

Why watch the team with a bunch of prospects…….Also I am kind of tired of hearing how the Cubs did it….they did not do it with just their farm system. They spent money….Free agents…Lester, Lackey, Zobrist, Heyward…….they made some shrewd trades giving up players who were not necessarily that great….Dempster for Hendricks…Samardzija for Russell, Cashner for Rizzo, and Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger for Arrieta…and Luis Valbuena for Fowler who promptly signed as a Free Agent this past year with…the Cubs….The Sox cannot just rely on a great farm system, it takes making shrewd trades and spending more money than they are likely willing to do. I don’t have any answers, but without Sale and the others, this could be too painful to watch.

Given the Sox have been around $120m the last couple of years, you need to sign 4 starters for 27m/yr or 6.5m/yr/player…and you aren’t even talking about depth or relief pitchers.
