Even the 5 walks were not that bad – the pitches did not miss by much and some would have been called strikes by some other umpires. The umpire was consistent – the difference was Shields didn’t appear to let it affect him to try to get more of the plate like Boyd did.

Apropos of nothing… would it be possible to let Shields wear Frank Thomas’ retired number? A game-worn Sox jersey with SHIELDS 35 ought to exist.
