Agreed. Being that Rodon and Fulmer are “their guys”, I’d like to see them ride them out a bit longer. Most of what we are about to see is going to be with other people’s talent.

In the next couple of drafts, Sox need to really hit it big on their first round picks. Rodon and Fulmer are nice, but that might be all they are. Be bad enough in the next two years to find a couple of more stars to go with what you’ve acquired.

i’m not so sure they are setting up a longer time frame. you need to build your farm system on multiple levels. while it would be nice to have 5 or 6 major league ready players for 2018, that would leave the cupboard bare for the future. now they have robert, jiminez, etc. that should provide an additional jolt to the team whenever they are ready.

My idea would be to have Volstad throw 120 pitches per start. If that takes him through 6 innings, fine. If it takes him through 3 innings, fine. I wouldn’t be a bit concerned about his confidence or lack thereof, I wouldn’t be concerned about his ERA, I’d only be concerned about his health as that would be his only asset.

At this point the organization’s top 10 starting pitching assets – in my view – do not include Fulmer and Danish – so those will likely be the first two callups and I’d order them to pitch to contact (Danish sort of does already). I’ve said it before: 2018 will look a LOT uglier than 2017. 2019 probably will too. If they rush this, they will get what they got from 2008-2016.

You’d be going full rebuild and probably still hurting the bullpen if you let Volstad get some starts. But your overall point about it taxing the bullpen is a good one. Not sure how they make up for the innings lost. In Sale and Quintana they’ve lost at least 400 IP. That’s tough to overcome.

Rodon probably isn’t a guy you trade right now. First off, he’s coming off an injury and a bad season. You’d be selling low or almost entirely on his potential. Not sure you’d get good value for that. Second, the White Sox really need to hold onto a guy like him. None of their pitching prospects have shown an ability to throw at the big league level. Even that as a ceiling for Rodon puts him a cut above the rest of the prospects.

Wonder how interested the Braves would be in Rodon? In some ways he’s a better fit for them than Quintana. With Robert and now Jimenez it looks like the Sox are setting up a longer time frame (2020) before competing than originally thought.

For a rebuilding team, the second half of July and most of August are the exciting time for the team’s followers as you start to see which minor leaguers get promoted and released.

The hard part about losing Quintana is that he is the one pitcher giving the bullpen a rest. It is imperative that Swarzak and Kahnle get moved quickly before overuse costs them value. I would just let Volstad take Q’s roster spot since I would let him pitch more bad innings than I would let Giolito, Fulmer, or Lopez throw at this point. Either of those 3 could take a roster spot once Holland or Gonzalez are moved/released.

Spectacular. Maybe Cease develops that third pitch and becomes a starter. Maybe he’s a late inning reliever. Jimenez and Moncada on the same team soon. Thank you.

I want more. Frazier, Cabrera, Robertson. Dump them all in the next two weeks. Worst record in AL, top five draft pick in 2018.
