[…] Manny Machado could be that opportunity. However, not necessarily this season. While I understand the thought of bringing him in for a year and hopefully getting him to sign an extension, there’s more risk than reward. […]

There's no point in getting Machado for 2018 unless the price is right. Signing him in 2019 as a free agent makes a lot of sense.

The Orioles have really mishandled their roster. All Machado will net them is one A- prospect - they may be able to finagle a C prospect throw-in as a face saving gesture. They're going to have to trade multiple players in one shot if they want more than one A- prospect back. If something like Carson Fulmer + Jordan Guerrero was offered for something like Machado + Cody Sedlock, the Orioles should have jumped at it if they aren't doing a complete rebuild.

Baltimore should do a complete rebuild but that will be a rough road for them because they have so many expiring contracts and players in arbitration which lowers their trade value. But they obviously haven't figured that out yet if the Winter Meetings have come and gone and not one player was moved. We don't even hear anything about the Orioles even talking to Arrieta or Darvish.

Makes me very happy that the White Sox, despite their faults, at least make a decision every year on the direction they want to go by the time the World Series ends. The Orioles seem to be afraid to make decisions. At the very least they should be discussing a 5-year contract with Dylan Bundy - without a contract his trade value goes down. This is something the White Sox have done better than most organizations so maybe I'm thinking that is normal rather than an exception.
