Baseball reference has been keeping records on Strike Out Looking since 1988. No player in baseball during that 30 year time span has had as many Looking Strikeouts than Moncada. The previous season high was 78. Moncada had 85 this year. That was 29 more than the next hitter this year, Chris Davis. 10-12 more hits would raise his average into at least the .250s range. He just has to be a little more aggressive and not leave things up to the umpires.

Pitchers:

James Shields - KEEP expensive option but 200 innings needed
Carlos Rodon - MOVE can't control emotions, BB rate high
Hector Santiago - KEEP utility fodder but good attitude
Jace Fry - KEEP
Juan Minaya - KEEP can't move everybody
Aaron Bummer - KEEP
Nate Jones - MOVE
Ian Hamilton - KEEP
Spencer Adams - KEEP
Tyler Danish - MOVE
Carson Fulmer - MOVE
Jordan Guerrero - KEEP
Greg Infante - KEEP
Jordan Stephens - KEEP

They should break the bank for Manny Machado. Won't cost a draft pick. Front load the contract like Jason Heyward and give him an opt out after 3 seasons so he's not stuck here if the rebuild fails. I would consider Matt Harvey but not get in a bidding war. Corbin would cost a draft pick so that is a soft target at best.

I would trade a pitcher listed as KEEP if a #3 or 4 starter with 2+ years remaining under contract could be had in return.

The rebuild began in 2017. It's a bit early to think about cutting bait on any player acquired in 2017 or 2018. But players in the organization in 2016 and earlier are at that point now. Here's a quick look, beginning with position players.

Omar Narvaez - KEEP
Jose Abreu - MOVE Good player but time is not on his side
Tim Anderson - KEEP but it may be time to gauge trade value
Carlos Sanchez - KEEP best baseball IQ on the team
Nick Delmonico - KEEP if he still has an option
Adam Engel - KEEP needed for defense with low K pitchers
Avisail Garcia - MOVE contract time not on our side
Matt Davidson - MOVE
Leury Garcia - MOVE
Kevan Smith - MOVE
Charlie Tilson - MOVE
